In a significant move to provide humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, the U.S. has started the process of installing a floating dock system off the coast. The dock, which is expected to be fully operational within the next 24 hours, will be anchored 3 to 5 miles off the coast, with supplies being moved from the dock to a causeway on Gaza’s beach.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has given permission to move forward with installing the dock, which involves civilian aid ships, trucks, U.S. Army boats, and a causeway with U.S. Navy ships for security. The system is expected to deliver more aid in the first 48 hours of operation than all previous airdrops combined.
Elements to build the system were shipped to the Mediterranean in March following President Biden’s announcement. This initiative underscores the U.S.’s commitment to providing much-needed aid to the people of Gaza, who have been facing dire humanitarian conditions.
The deployment of the floating dock system for humanitarian aid is a significant step towards alleviating the suffering of the people in Gaza and demonstrates the U.S.’s continued support for those in need. Stay tuned for more updates as the installation of the system progresses.
