Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods left frustrated at Quail Hollow

Fowler is making his ninth appearance in The Players Championship and hopes playing alongside Mickelson and Woods will inspire him to claim a second victory in the tournament following his triumph in 2015. However, he'll be a major story line for fans Thursday and Friday, not just because he's, well, Tiger, but for the riveting group in which he's been placed.

Mickelson and Woods have been pitted as rivals for a number of years, but the two rarely have played together professionally and it has been even more rare for the two have a legitimate battle for a win.

The last time Woods and Mickelson were in the same group was the first two rounds of the 2014 PGA Championship, where the PGA of America determines the groupings. His opening 73 was not a disaster, but when I asked about his day, he said he just couldn't get anything going on the greens.

"Now, I don't know if he wants a piece of me", he said, pausing for laughter, "but I just think it would be something that would be really fun for us to do, and I think there would be a lot of interest in it if we just went straight to the final round". "I'm doing better as time has gone on", Mickelson said.

"You look on the U.S. side and you've got Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Rickie Fowler, these guys are all playing really well. Rickie's a great complement to the group, and we're going to have a lot of fun".

Day rated the victory one of the best of his career, not because of the quality of his play but more due to his ability to get the job done without his best game.

If you already have store bought romaine lettuce in your fridge, the CDC said you're better off not eating and throwing it away. Erring on the side of caution, Wise said: "People should not be eating any type of romaine lettuce".

"That's why it's going to be so hard for Tiger Woods to win another major, never mind take his total from the fourteen he has now to the levels Jack got to". Day carded four bogeys to blow what had become a three-shot edge.

In posting his second win of the season, the Australian was only two fairways better than Woods and a dismal 6/14 on Sunday.

"I'm hitting the ball well enough to contend, to win this golf tournament", he said. But I made nothing.

He had only one birdie chance from inside 10 feet - a five-footer that he missed at the par-five 10th. "It was just a bad week and the good news is that you wipe your hands clean and move on to the next one".

"That was one of the very few times, if not the first time we played together the first two rounds". They represent, in reverse order, the past three FedExCup champions and will tee off together in another trio that could safely be described as "better than most".

Some say the dynamic began to change in 2007, when Mickelson began working with swing coach Butch Harmon, who had worked with Woods earlier in his career. That's how it always is now with Woods, who appears to care more and more about answering questions earnestly, knowing the gravity his words carry across the sporting world.
