Helicopter Crash In Oneida County

"We are deeply saddened and mourning the loss of three teammates who were aboard the air medical helicopter that went down in Hazelhurst, Wisconsin on April 26", the statement reads.

A medical helicopter crashed in wooded, rough terrain in northern Wisconsin, killing all three people on board, authorities said Friday.

The three crew members killed in the crash are believed to have died on impact, Oneida County Medical Examiner Larry Mathein told Wausau TV station WAOW.

The body of the pilot is being sent for an autopsy, which is standard protocol, according to the medical examiner.

ThedaStar, an air medical service operated by ThedaCare, released a statement Friday morning about the Spirit Air Medical crash.

A search was launched after the chopper was reported missing late Thursday night.

The last known contact with the helicopter was at 10:55 p.m., the sheriff's office said.

Ryden said the area is also hilly with high ridges and swamps.

The FAA and NTSB are continuing to investigate the crash.
