Woman bumped from overbooked United flight walks away with $10K

The United passenger, a communications director named Allison Preiss, was on a flight Thursday morning preparing to depart from Washington Dulles International Airport when crew members informed travelers the flight was overbooked.

In the case of an oversold flight, airlines will kick off the lowest fare passenger, unless there is a volunteer.

"If you've got a picture of the dog on the create, they're not going to put a poodle in a German shepherd's kennel", she said.

Clearly, the company didn't need another disaster, and Preiss, who works as a public relations professional, had thousands of followers listening to her frustrations with the company.

United oversold the flight and asked Preiss, the lowest-fair passenger, to deboard. Preiss had paid the least amount of money for her seat and was told there was a broken seat on the plane so she had to catch the next flight to Austin.

But alas, she didn't get access for a day to the airline lounge.

Preiss tweeted all throughout the incident, giving details like the fact that she also got meal vouchers for the delay.
