Authorities were still looking for 19-year-old James Eric Davis Jr.

CMU did confirm that it was James Davis Sr. and Diva Davis of Bellwood, Illnois who were slain in the incident.

Bellwood Police Chief Jiminez Allen on Friday called it "a very hard time" for the department.

CMU officials confirmed Friday night that the the two people killed in a campus dorm were Davis Jr.'s parents, James Davis Sr. and his wife Diva, of Bellwood, Illinois.

The entire CMU campus and most of the city of Mt Pleasant, where the university is located, was in lockdown mode while police from local, state and federal agencies searched the area. Davis Jr. graduated from Central High School in 2016, said Tom Hernandez, a spokesman for Plainfield School District 202.

"We will not comment beyond that out of respect for the family", Hernandez said.

Police warned the public not to a confront Davis.

A 19-year-old student suspected of killing his parents at a Central Michigan University dormitory and then running from campus has been apprehended.

Davis was believed to have left the hospital before going to campus where the shooting took place.

The university says the Friday morning shooting occurred at a campus residence hall and killed two people who weren't students. "The hurting will go on for a while", Ross said.

Davis' "contributions to our community positively impacted everyone he served and served with", Allen said.

"We had picnics in our backyard", Leal said.

One tweeted: "Just saw 8 cop cars drive by me on campus".

"We're all confused and at a loss", he said. "They wouldn't want us to fall apart". They say Davis was seen on train tracks shortly after midnight. The campus was locked down, and students and staff were told to find shelter.

The suspect was still at large and considered armed and unsafe.

But police say they received a call about Davis Thursday night that led to him being taken to the hospital for a "drug-related" incident.

There were no other injuries in the shooting, according to the school's website.

The parents were reportedly picking up their son from college for spring break when the shooting happened inside a residence hall on campus.

Parents trying to pick up students following a fatal shooting at Central Michigan University are being asked to stay off campus.

University police said the couple were shot at Campbell Hall, a dormitory.

The campus was on lockdown Friday morning and students posted on social media images of their barricaded dorm room doors and video of the school's alert message. She had planned to run errands before traveling home to the Detroit area.
