Gabriella Papadakis: Ice Dancer's Costume Malfunctions Horribly

French ice dancers Guillaume Cizeron and Gabriella Papadakis were almost undone by one of the worst things that can ever happen to performers - in this case Olympic athletes being judged on their precision - mid-show: the dreaded wardrobe malfunction.

Ice Dance short dance competition - Gangneung Ice Arena - Gangneung, South Korea - February 19, 2018 - Guillaume Cizeron and Gabriella Papadakis of France perform.

But rather than allow the malfunction to wreck their Olympic dreams, Papadakis valiantly continued the performance - and was rewarded for her bravery with second place heading into Tuesday's free dance.

Papadakis and partner Guillaume Cizeron were in the middle of their short dance programme routine. Sports was her "worst nightmare". She said, "I just can't explain it, it's a real mystery". I told myself, "I don't have a choice".

'I was thinking of stopping the programme but the crowd was so wonderful I just kept going'.

Papadakis was embarrassed leaving the rink after the performance, but the two still finished in second place.

As People reports, on Monday afternoon (or Sunday evening, when it was seen in the US), Gabriella faced her worst fears during the duo's short program when the clasp on her halter top snapped.

This time there were tears of joy from Papadakis after achieving an Olympic record and winning silver.

Papadakis's wasn't the only wardrobe malfunction on the ice at the Pyeongchang Games.

She conceded afterwards that it was "hard to stay concentrated after the costume malfunctioned" but to their credit they still pulled out an impressive score.

On day three, South Korean skater Yura Min's dress came undone seconds into her performance. When Papadakis threw herself backward for the final element, her costume rode upwards and appeared to reveal the lower part of her left breast on global television - and in slow motion replays at the Gangneung Ice Arena. "I think we should be proud we were able to deliver a strong performance with that happening", she said at the conference. "It is not what we get ready for when we train", said Cizeron afterwards.
