Kim Jong-un Sends Sister South For An Olympics 'Charm Offensive'

Vice President Pence, who will lead the USA delegation at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang on Friday, says he is prepared to announce the "toughest" economic sanctions yet on North Korea. It also banned the export of industrial equipment, machinery, transportation vehicles and industrial metals to North Korea, and required countries now hosting North Korean migrant workers to repatriate them within 24 months. Some analysts say she's a crucial part of the Kim regime, helping shape North Korean strategic policy as part of her brother's executive office.

"We will continue to isolate North Korea until it abandons its nuclear and ballistic missile programs once and for all", he said.

It's unclear whether any member of the North Korean government delegation will hold talks with USA officials during the Olympics.

Washington is taking a much tougher line on the North than its allies in Seoul, exposing tensions that South Korean President Moon Jae-in could struggle to hide at the Olympics.

He urged countries "not to be lured by the charm offensive of North Korea", adding that the U.S. and Japan are "100 percent on the same page" on North Korean policy.
