Ford reveals 2018 Mustang Bullitt ahead of its Detroit unveal

Post the Detroit debut, the new 2018 Mustang Bullitt will be up for grabs by this summer, said Ford.

The Ford Mustang Bullitt is powered by an upgraded 5.0-litre V8 engine, giving the vehicle a top speed of 163mph.

Mind you, it's not hard to be cool in a auto with understated chrome accents around front windows and special black grille, classic 19 inch aluminium wheels, red painted Brembo brake callipers and - just like the original - no exterior badging at all other than a Bullitt logo on the dummy fuel cap in the centre of the rear panel.

Ford has sold Bullitt editions before, including one for the fifth gen; but the one that comes 50 years after the film and the original in the chase (even if it is a 2019) has anniversary appeal.

Available in just Shadow Black and classic Dark Highland Green, the Bullitt Mustang is devoid of any stripes and other extraneous detail that other 'Stangs have. The other vehicle, which was used in many chase scenes, went to a salvage yard. The 2019 Bullitt has new Nitro-plate black exhaust tips and also features Ford's new open-air induction system and a new powertrain control calibration module to provide the appealing exhaust note while also offering improved power. There's also an uprated active valve performance exhaust system, said to give the Mustang its "signature burble".

Ford has officially revealed a new special edition version of the Mustang.

The Pasco County Sheriff's Office says all of the passengers were able to make it back to shore where EMS crews treated them. Passengers jumped into the frigid gulf waters and waded to shore as flames destroyed the boat.

The 1968 film Bullitt made the Mustang Bullitt an American icon of the road.

It's been 50 years since Steve McQueen drove the green 1968 Ford Mustang GT Fastback in the iconic vehicle chase on the streets of San Francisco.

It is one of the most famous cars in cinema history, up there with Michael Caine's Mini Cooper from The Italian Job and Michael J Fox's DeLorean from Back to the Future.

The rumours of a new Bullitt started flying some time ago, but kicked into top gear when a green Mustang with a crosshair emblem at the rear was spotted driving around in Chicago.

"You know, it was never our intention to keep this vehicle a secret from everybody", Kiernan said, in a press release. Unlike the original stunt auto which was recently discovered in Mexico and was nearly transformed into an Eleanor, this 1968 Mustang Bullitt remains completely original. "It just kind of happened with life".

Options include an electronics package that features navigation, upgraded sound system and blind spot and cross traffic warnings.
