Jewish Voice for Peace, five other United States groups on Israel's BDS blacklist

BDS, which stands for "boycott, divest and sanctions", aims to pressure Israel into complying with worldwide law vis-à-vis its policies toward the Palestinians.

Declaring a "switch from defense to offense", the Ministry of Strategic Affairs on Sunday published a list of 20 worldwide pro-BDS organizations to be banned from the country for their calls to boycott Israel.

According to Erdan, this move is yet "another step in [Israel's] work to thwart anti-Israel boycott organizations".

"The boycott organisations need to know that the state of Israel will act against them and will not allow them to enter its territory in order to harm its citizens", Public Security and Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan wrote in a Hebrew-language statement.

Supporters of the movement say the tactics are a nonviolent way to promote the Palestinian cause.

Israel's quest to undermine the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement (BDS) has prompted the nation to blacklist a group that has long stood for victims of violence, including Jewish refugees fleeing Nazi Germany.

Jon Gruden named Raiders' coach
The Raiders fired Jack Del Rio after the team went 6-10 following a season in which they made the playoffs with a record of 12-4. Gruden's ESPN broadcast partner Sean McDonough congratulated him during the broadcast but Gruden said "Nothing's official".

The listed groups, from the United States, France, South Africa and beyond, count thousands of people as members.

Six U.S. groups, including the Code Pink, the American Friends Service Committee, which was awarded the 1947 Nobel Peace Prize for assisting and rescuing victims of the Nazis, and the left-wing organization Jewish Voice for Peace are included in the list, the Israeli daily Haaretz reported.

Israel's Strategic Affairs Ministry has placed the left-wing, California-based Jewish Voice for Peace and five other US groups on a BDS blacklist.

Israeli officials said the blacklist is part of a policy aimed at turning the tables on the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

"Israel's decision to specifically ban JVP is disconcerting but not surprising, given the further erosion of democratic norms and rising anxiety about the power of BDS as a tool to demand freedom", the organization said.

"I will act against this by every means", Dery said. Israel has also enjoyed new economic partnerships and diplomatic ties despite calls for boycotts and it has become a top destination for global sporting and cultural events.
