An officer with the California Highway Patrol died Christmas Eve in a crash in Hayward, the CHP said.
Camilleri and his partner, Jonathan Velasquez, had stopped their patrol SUV on the right shoulder of the highway, southbound near the Winton Avenue exit, to monitor traffic using a radar gun and other equipment.
The accident was reported at 11:59 p.m. Sunday just north of Highway 92.
The 33-year-old officer had been with the CHP for a little over a year.
When released from the hospital, CHP says they have enough evidence to charge the driver with "very serious felony charges".
"This needs to stop", Sanchez said, adding that he is not only brokenhearted about Camilleri's death, but also angry.

CHP says Officer Camilleri is survived by his wife, daughter, sons, parents, brother and sister.
Camilleri's children "were expecting (their) father to come home and help open Christmas presents", Sanchez said. Jerry Brown issued a statement following news of the officer's death.
Banners at the Capitol will be flown at half-staff in the fallen officer's respect, as indicated by an announcement from Gov. "Anne and I are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Officer Camilleri, who died yesterday while working to keep our communities safe".
"We join his family, companions and the whole California Highway Patrol in grieving his passing and in regarding his forfeit", the announcement read.
