Trump attacks his own Federal Bureau of Investigation in series of tweets

He helped lead the investigation into whether Hillary Clinton mishandled classified information on her private email account, and then played a major role in the investigation into links between President Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

"Immediately upon learning of the allegations, the Special Counsel's Office removed Peter Strzok from the investigation", Special Counsel's Office spokesperson Peter Carr told BuzzFeed News.

Robert Mueller removed a top FBI counterintelligence agent from his investigation into Russia's 2016 election meddling this past summer after the Justice Department's inspector general started looking into text messages he and another agent on Mueller's team may have sent expressing negative views about Donald Trump.

Strzok was reportedly reassigned this past summer from the Mueller investigation to the FBI's human resources department, according to The Times.

According to the Post, the politically charged text messages were exchanged between Strzok and Lisa Page, an FBI lawyer who worked for deputy director Andrew McCabe, in the midst of a extramarital affair during the Clinton investigation and last year's presidential campaign.

"In light of today's press reports, we now know why Strzok was dismissed, why the Federal Bureau of Investigation and DOJ refused to provide us this explanation, and at least one reason why they previously refused to make Deputy Director McCabe available to the Committee for an interview", Nunes said. When Mr. Trump fired his F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, in May, he initially cited his handling of the Clinton email investigation as the reason for his dismissal.

Trump Says He's Not Worried About What Flynn Will Tell Investigators
It's unclear if the messages continued after Trump became president and after Mueller was appointed as special counsel in May. Sources told Reuters the "very senior" transition official was Jared Kushner , Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser.

The DOJ is investigating the Strzok-led FBI investigation of the Clinton email scandal.

Agent Peter Strzok is considered one of the most experienced investigators in the FBI and previously assisted with the Hillary Clinton email investigation, before moving on to investigate Russia's interference in the election. He helped lead the investigation into whether Hillary Clinton mishandled classified information on her private email account, and then played a major role in the investigation into links between President Trump's campaign and Russian Federation.

Though, Fox News reports the role Strzok played in the Clinton investigation may now be under review at the Department of Justice.

The people discussing the matter did not further describe the political messages between Strzok and Page, except to say the two would sometime react to campaign news of the moment.

The Post has repeatedly sought comment from Strzok and Page, but got no response.
