Korea says it will join U.S. aircraft carrier drill November 11-14

The joint chiefs of staff of South Korea said in a statement in Seoul that its naval vessels will participate in the drills.

Yonhap said the three aircraft carriers will enter the KTO one by one as the strike groups sail with a certain distance from each other. "Multiple carrier strike force operations are very complex, and this exercise in the western Pacific is a strong testament to the US Pacific Fleet's unique ability and ironclad commitment to the continued security and stability of the region".

Trump said in a speech at South Korea's parliament Wednesday, "Currently stationed in the vicinity of this peninsula are the three largest aircraft carriers in the world loaded to the maximum with magnificent F-35 and F-18 fighter jets".

The U.S. has sent a number of its so-called strategic assets to the area - including carriers, heavy bombers and high-tech submarines - as part of a concerted push to heap pressure on North Korea to rein in its nuclear and missile programs. The exercises appear to be a large-scale show of force aimed at North Korea and scheduled to coincide with Trump's trip to Asia.

The largest USA warship in Asia, the USS Ronald Reagan, will join the USS Nimitz and the USS Theodore Roosevelt in the naval exercise on November 11-14.

The president's Kurdistan Regional Government said it had ordered the local police forces, known as Asayish, to stop the attacks. Opposition lawmakers who had been barricaded inside managed to leave later, according to their parties.

The strike groups planned to conduct air defense drills, sea surveillance, replenishments at sea, defensive air combat training, close-in coordinated maneuvers and other training, according to the Pacific Fleet.
