Facepalm! Hardik Patel declares support for Congress but his aides join BJP

According to Reshma's Twitter page, she had written a letter to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on October 6 asking him to clarify his party's stand on granting reservation under OBC quota to Patidars.

He added, "Me, Hardik Patel and Jignesh are all going to join hands with the Congress party to defeat the BJP". "I am very happy that Mr Thakor had a meeting with our vice president and agreed to join the Congress party". Thakore met Gandhi at the latter's residence this evening and was accompanied by Congress general secretary in-charge of Gujarat Ashok Gehlot and state unit chief Bharatsinh Solanki.

The party is also reaching out to the 24 year old Hardik Patel who is leading the stir for reservation in jobs and education for the influential Patidar community.

After the recent Rajya Sabha where Congress leader Ahmed Patel barely scraped through, the party had shut its doors on an alliance with the NCP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the best bet for the ruling BJP will also be rushing to Gujarat on Sunday.

Congress, however, has not stopped at that since it has also invited like-minded parties and leaders including Aam Aadmi Party and Chhotu Vasava, a tribal deader and JD (U) MLA. I now hear that they are ready to join hands with the Congress. I can not contest elections myself because of constitutional provisions, nor do I want.

Missing Pak journalist rescued after over two years
26-year-old journalist Zeenat Shahzadi was abducted on August 19, 2015 from Lahore while she was on the way to work. Ansari, a Mumbai resident arrested in 2012 for illegally entering Pakistan to meet a girl he had befriended online.

The BJP, which has announced a Non-Reserved Category Educational and Economic Development Board and Commission to placate the agitators, has been portraying Patel as a "Congress agent".

To this, Kalsaria, the seniormost AAP leader in the state, said: "I am looking to fight from Mahuva seat as an Independent and get the Congress to leave that seat for me". BJP, indeed, would have a tough time combating the three different powerful communities- Patidar, OBC and Dalit- backing the Congress.

For Congress, the proposed front with its caste combination looks impressive on paper.

But, then, the mega-front is up against the personality and charisma of Mr Modi, who continues to remain the biggest draw in the state and an icon of "Gujarati pride".
