Mane was substituted in the 89th minute of Senegal's win, and Liverpool have now confirmed the player's injury.

Liverpool have been dealt a major injury blow with the news Sadio Mane has injured his hamstring on global duty with Senegal and is out for six weeks.

The Premier League giants have confirmed that as such the former Southampton winger is looking at up to six weeks out of action.

The Senegal global scored 13 goals and laid on a further right in just 29 appearances for the Reds in 2015/16, with his absence at the end of the season hampering his side's fluency.

The timing is also all wrong for the manager, with high-flying Manchester United visiting on Saturday morning and Klopp needing a positive result to kick-start Liverpool's season.

Liverpool won just once in seven matches in all competitions while Mane was at the African Nations Cup in January.

Mane was included in the 30-man shortlist for the 2017 Ballon D'or which was released on Monday.

They have already had to cope without Mane for some of this season, domestically at least, after his red card against Manchester City led to a three-match ban.

Jurgen Klopp's side have some genuinely crucial matches coming up in the next few weeks, both in the Champions League and Premier League.
