Michelle Williams May Play She-Venom

It looks like four-time Oscar nominated actress Michelle Williams will star in Sony's upcoming Venom film. According to the trade, there's no concrete details yet on her character, though she's rumored to be playing "a district attorney and possibly Hardy's love interest".

Sony did not comment on the casting, but according to the report, Sony Pictures has been considering several actresses for the lead role and chose to offer it to Williams after seeing the trailer for her upcoming film All the Money in the World with Ridley Scott.

In addition, Sony is also now developing an animated Spider-Man movie featuring Miles Morales, again not associated with Marvel Studios.

Tesla working with AMD on self-driving vehicle chip
AMD has reportedly already sent Tesla early samples of the new semi-custom chip, with testing already underway. Chipzilla recently announced a partnership with Alphabet's Waymo to build fully self-driving cars.

Sony execs and Fleischer had been meeting with multiple actresses for the part for the past month, with production beginning next month.

The Venom movie will likely take on numerous characteristics of how the spin-off was originally conceived at Sony back when it would have dovetailed into Andrew Garfield's The Amazing Spider-Man films.

In the comics, the character of Venom is inherently associated with Spider-Man. This is obviously a major get for Sony, which views Venom as the kickoff to a major web of interconnected movies. This role feels weird for Williams, as she's already getting Oscar Buzz for Ridley Scott's All The Money In the World, is supposedly great in Todd Haynes' Wonderstruck, and hasn't been in a big studio picture since Oz: The Great and the Powerful (which is, admittedly, fun). Also, Emmy-winning actor Riz Ahmed will be seen in the movie. Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad will produce. Venom was previously played by Topher Grace in 2007's Spider-Man 3. Venom is reportedly meant to be an R-rated, sci-fi and horror take on the comic book villain.

Venom is scheduled for theatrical release on October 5, 2018.
