It was obvious since Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had not informed Sharad Yadav when he chose to tender his resignation and join forces with the BJP.

Sharad Yadav was not in favour of Nitish Kumar's decision to form an alliance with BJP to form the government in Bihar. BJP leader S Prakash said, "There is a vertical split now in JD (U) over the alliance with the BJP".

The party is also contemplating "precipitous steps" to suspend leaders or workers who have been attending Yadav's rallies in Bihar, sources said. Yadav has been replaced with Bihar Chief Minister and party chief Nitish Kumar's close aide RCP Sinha.

Tyagi said Sharad Yadav won from Madhepura with the BJP's support in 1999. Shah broke the news on Twitter saying: "I met JD (U) president Nitish Kumar at my residence yesterday".

He said Mr Yadav had already chosen a path which "leads to the RJD". "I invited JD (U) to join the NDA".

"(We are taking) Necessary step because being leader if a person indulges in anti-party activities it has to be condemned unanimously", Singh added.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to deliver on the Rs 1.25 lakh crore special package he had promised to the state.

A delegation of party's Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha members submitted a letter to vice president Venkaiah Naidu declaring Ramchandra Prasad Singh the party's new leader in the Rajya Sabha.

"We are the real one as we are still with the principles of the JD-U, but they have changed and become BJD-U", he added, in a jibe at the Nitish Kumar faction which has sided with the BJP to form the government in Bihar. We are not going to get cowed down by such threats.

The Sharad Yadav faction on Sunday claimed that it has support of JDU's 14 state units, ahead of the party's national executive next weekend to formally join the NDA.
