Windows 10 will get eye-tracking support to aid people with disabilities

While the company has retirement plans for the old Paint, its newer Paint 3D app (released earlier this year with the Windows 10 Creators Update) includes numerous same drawing, painting and visual tools - and as the name suggests, refreshes the app with 3-D drawing and modeling features. "Through integration with Microsoft's operating system, it becomes possible over time to realise robust eye tracking implementations that add a range of user benefits". Unfortunately, the number of Windows users actually equipped to use the feature is ridiculously slim.

Download and update to Tobii's Core eye tracking release check for Windows Updates (the Tobii Eye Tracker HIDClass Driver should install automatically). In addition, Developer Insiders who are in the Office Insider program will see new support for using 3D images in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Microsoft has yet to share a specific list of navigational features one can perform using only Eye Control, but that's understandable since it's still now in beta. It would let them operate a mouse to launch apps and keyboard to type out words just by focusing eyes on the subject for some time.

For a feature still in beta, it seems to work reasonably well.

"With eye tracking, devices can better understand our intentions, a key ability in creating truly natural human-computer interaction", said president of Tobii Tech Oscar Werner in a statement, VentureBeat reports.

One feature is called "shape writing". Other minor software problems related to freezing and crashing exist with Tobii UI.

Eye tracking does not work well in direct sunlight. Console windows now support full 24-bit color and are no longer limited to only 16 colors.

Fixed issues with the launcher of the Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) where it was giving errors and/or was displaying only part of the application after the launch.

Other Edge improvements include a new look inspired by Microsoft's Fluent Design System, and several fixes for issues.

New tabs opened from links in existing tabs will now appear on the right rather than on the left. The update also comes with a bunch of bug fixes related to dictation as well as Japanese keyboards. This update, according to Microsoft, will give the Console a more modern look and feel than what you are used to.
