Indian woman attacked with acid for fifth time


A night after a gang rape survivor was attacked with acid here, the Uttar Pradesh Police are yet to arrest anyone. "The staff is also nonplussed and her two body guards, who were present at the gate near the place of attack, also have no clue about the attackers", said SSP Lucknow Deepak Kumar. She was rushed to a hospital where her condition was stated to be stable. Police will act on the complaint lodged by them. He added that police has informed her parents about the incident and a probe has been initiated. She was admitted to the trauma centre of the King George's Medical University.

In 2008, the mother of two was gangraped and attacked with acid at her home in Unchahar, 100 km away from Lucknow. She was attacked with acid in 2011 and 2013. There are injuries to the right side of her face. The woman is in trauma.

The woman was attacked by two unidentified persons at her hostel on Saturday. "But he is yet to take a call on it", he said. I had visited her at the KGMU and then we made arrangments for her treatment and security. The attack took place at the shift changing time of gunner.

He said police were working on the case and examining the footage of the CCTVs.

Women Welfare Minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi described the incident as shocking and unfortunate and said action would be taken after the investigation report.

In March this year, she was cornered, while travelling by a train with her daughter, by her alleged rapists and forced to drink acid.

Earlier, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath even visited her in hospital and promised her security.

The incident had came to light when the woman had got off the Allahabad-Lucknow Ganga Gomti Express at Charbagh Station here and gave a written complaint to the government railway police. She wrote the complaint as she could not speak. She said, "The law and order has completely broken down in UP. Everyday there are instances of harassment, rapes, murders, and exploitation etc", said Juhi Singh of Samajwadi Party. "I would ask our minister in-charge of law and order, as to why this case has not been fast tracked".

This was the fifth attack on the rape victim in the last nine years, police said.
