Backed Kurdish coalition forces close in on ISIS in Raqqa


It was a close call with ISIS, even as the group's so-called Islamic State crumbles.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Tuesday dozens of people were killed in an air strike believed to have been carried out by the US -led coalition on an Islamic State group prison in eastern Syria.

The lack of rapid progress is due to ISIS's intensification of attacks, the Syrian observatory quoted a source on Sunday.

Faced with turmoil across its southern border, Turkey past year sent troops into Syria to support Free Syrian Army rebels fighting both Islamic State and Kurdish forces who control a large part of Syria's northern border region.

At least 57 people were killed in an airstrike on an IS-run jail in the Euphrates River Valley on Monday.
