This undated photo released by Tyson Foods company shows Matt Mika.

The family of Matt Mika released the following update on his condition after Mika was shot this morning during a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia. He recently came out of surgery but remains in the ICU in critical condition and we expect him to stay there for at least several days. Baseball is one of his great passions and he has always loved the Congressional team. Although he needs assistance to breathe and will need additional surgeries, Mika has been conscious and communicating through notes, the family said.

Mickelson says Mika is director of government relations for Tyson's Washington, D.C., office and that he's worked for the company for more than six years.

"Matt Mika, one of the guys who helps us, is here at the hospital", Brady told the Post. We understand he is lucky to be alive, and we owe it to these wonderful individuals and Matt's fighting spirit and grit. They said he was in intensive care and "lucky to be alive".

Patriots, Julian Edelman agree to two-year extension
Edelman is assured of a spot in the Patriots 53-man roster while Amendola and Hawkins are expected to battle for the last berth. The 31-year-old Edelman is fresh from his second 1,000-plus yard season in nine years with the Patriots.

Mika's LinkedIn profile shows he worked as a staff member for MI lawmakers, including U.S. Reps.

His family also mentioned in their statement that Mika had once served on the staff of Michigan State Representative David Palsrok.

Scalise, a member of the House Republican leadership as the majority whip, appeared to have been shot in the hip. He's an Oakland County native and graduate of Adrian College. "We are also praying and wish a speedy recovery for my friend Congressman Steve Scalise, the heroic Capitol Police officers, and everyone affected by this awful shooting". Mika is a volunteer team coach.
