Israel pushes ahead with plans for 3000 settlement homes

Amnesty International has called for an international ban on all goods produced in illegal Israeli settlements to mark 50 years of occupation of Palestinian territories.

"For decades, the world has stood by as Israel has destroyed Palestinians' homes and plundered their land and natural resources for profit", Amnesty International secretary-general Salil Shetty said.

"The Israeli settlements are illegal - by extension, all settlement goods are tainted by illegality. The UK should no longer be party to this", Amnesty's Kate Allen said.

Israel has repeatedly made it clear that it couldn't care less what the world thinks and is doggedly determined to continue its expansion of settlements in flagrant violation of global law.

"The EU already has a policy of differentiating between goods from Israel proper and from [Jewish] settlements".

They live alongside some three million Palestinians.

These include displacing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, demolishing tens of thousands of Palestinian homes and properties and appropriating at least 100,000 hectares of Palestinian land.

Some also questioned whether his security clearance needs to be revoked. News of the discussion was first reported by The Washington Post .

Israel has also unlawfully seized control of Palestinian natural resources - such as water, fertile land, stone quarries and minerals - and diverted these to benefit settlement industries to produce agricultural products, construction materials and manufactured goods that are often exported overseas. At the same time, Israel has imposed restrictions on Palestinians' access to - and use of - water, land and other natural resources, as well as restricting Palestinians' freedom of movement, tearing families apart, stopping farmers from accessing their farmland and preventing people getting to work or earning a living.

MEF said the conflict will only be resolved once the Palestinians are defeated, abandon the objective of destroying Israel and recognize the Jewish state.

Abbas says Israel also incites against the Palestinians.

On December 23, 2016, the UN Security Council voted 14-0, with the United States abstaining, to pass a resolution calling on Israel to immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the areas.

Israel has advanced plans for more than 3,000 homes in West Bank settlements this week, despite US President Donald Trump's call to hold back on such projects as he seeks ways to restart peace efforts.

Last month, MEF and Republican members of Congress launched the initiative's American iteration, the "Israel Victory Caucus", to push for a revision of USA negotiating strategy in the Middle East. Rep. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) said the time has come for "a new U.S. approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict...they (the Palestinians) must give up the goal of destroying Israel and recognize Israel as the Jewish state".
