Volquez throws no-hitter, Marlins top Diamondbacks 3-0

Volquez's first season in Miami started about as badly as possible - the Marlins lost eight of his first nine starts and Volquez dropped his first seven decisions. Alvarez was also the last pitcher to pull off a no-hitter on less than 100 pitches.

Goldschmidt has tormented Saturday starter Edinson Volquez, going 7-for-14 in his career with five extra-base hits - including one homer - and four RBIs. Goldschmidt, the D-backs' best hitter, hit a medium fly to right, and Stanton's strong throw home kept Ahmed on third.

It's hard to believe that Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Randall Delgado is only 27 years old.

Following a three-game losing streak, Arizona captured the last two games against the Pirates.

He stuck around - and pitched the game of his life.

Volquez needed just 98 pitches to complete the feat.

"I was kind of anxious I wasn't going to be able to catch it because I had a bad jump getting over there, but I made the play", Greinke said. "And I got it".

The last time the Diamondbacks were no-hit also came against the Marlins - by Anibal Sanchez on September 6, 2006.

Volquez was shaken up after three pitches, turning his right ankle and falling when he collided with Arizona leadoff man Rey Fuentes while covering first.

"I thought I broke my ankle", he kidded after the game. "I said "hi" to the fans".

After the game, Volquez dedicated his game to Ventura and the late Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez. Edinson Volquez is scheduled to make Saturday's start versus the visiting Diamondbacks. Along the way, the two Dominican right-handers forged a close friendship.

Yet on this day, he was almost ideal.

Meeting with Abbas, Trump calls Manchester attackers 'evil losers'
It later annexed east Jerusalem in a move never recognised by the worldwide community and claims the entire city as its capital. Trump also laid a wreath and spoke at a ceremony at the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial in Jerusalem on Tuesday.

Volquez finally notched his first win after holding the Phillies to one run and three hits over six innings on Monday.

That left it up to Owings, another pinch-hitter. "It's really awesome to see a guy like that get an accomplishment like this".

Archie Bradley struck out Marcell Ozuna with two on to end the eighth.

Leake, who entered leading the National League in earned run average at 2.24, allowed five runs and six hits in 6 2/3 innings (see full recap).

Volquez is the epitome of a baseball journeyman.

Stanton matched a career high by scoring three times, and his 15th home run of the season put Miami ahead for good as the Marlins topped the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-5 on Friday night.

He was an All-Star in 2008, when he went 17-6 with Cincinnati.

Volquez and Ventura were teammates with the Kansas City Royals, helping the team capture the 2015 World Series title.

Adams' one-out homer off Blake Wood (0-4) saved the Braves after they blew a lead for the second day in a row. "And today I had a no-hitter".

NOTES: Arizona rested C Chris Iannetta and LF Yasmany Tomas. Arizona CF Gregor Blanco (left thumb) sat out his second straight game.

However, Stanton missed the Wednesday game because of what was called a cramp in his left hamstring. Justin Bour went 2-for-4 to lead the Marlins' offense.
