Local officials, officers honor Brownsville Police Department


Williamson said that almost every day there is a story about another law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty.

What would cities do without courageous law enforcement officers who are willing to risk their lives to protect the rest of us from violent criminals, theft and other injustices?

"May God bless you all and keep you safe", said Nevada law enforcement historian Frank Adams, fighting back tears.

Idaho law enforcement gathered in Meridian Thursday to honor fallen officers at the 19th Annual Idaho Peace Officers Memorial ceremony. This second event allowed surviving family members and co-workers more opportunities to learn about coping and grief, and to build important social connections.

John F. Kennedy declared May 15 as Peace Officers' Memorial Day in 1962.

"And we publicly salute the service of law enforcement officers from our community and from communities from across the nation", Tyer says.

The Children of Fallen Heroes Scholarship Act would increase access to Pell Grant scholarships for children of public service officers who are killed in the line of duty, including police, firefighters, and EMS workers. "While these men and women did not die in the hands of a criminal, we are nonetheless eternally grateful for their sacrifice". Officer deaths peaked in 1930, when 307 were killed. This program will improve officer safety on the job and accelerate the process of benefits through the Public Safety Officers' Benefits Program, which provides vital resources to the families of fallen officers.

This week, the House passed the Thin Blue Line Act.

DART Police Chief James D. Spiller also revealed a street sign in the parking lot called "Officer Brent Thompson Way".

"They sacrifice their life, their time, their family and so forth, always putting their life on the line, and there have been several officers that have lost their lives and paid the ultimate sacrifice", Munguia said.

"Our rights and liberties, our whole way of life, depend on the courage of the men and women who wear blue".

Mayor Linda Tyer proclaimed it Police Week in the City of Pittsfield.
