"Our SYNC 3 software platform was created to be easy to update so we can get our customers the latest and greatest features, functionally and security enhancements", said Don Butler, Ford Connected Vehicle & Services. If your vehicle is Wi-Fi-enabled, you can perform an over-the-air (OTA) update from within the vehicle to upgrade to the latest version of SYNC 3 (using the Automatic System Updates feature). This should pretty exciting news for Ford owners who now won't need to buy a brand new vehicle to get a major infotainment upgrade.
"Our SYNC 3 software platform was created to be easy to update so we can get our customers the latest and greatest features, functionally and security enhancements", said Don Butler, executive director, Ford Connected Vehicle and Services. Customers with Wi-Fi-enabled vehicles and a Wi-Fi network can set up their vehicle to receive the update automatically. Instead of relying on their vehicle's built-in navigation system, which might be outdated, they can project Google Maps onto their car's in-dash display, for instance.
Needless to say, having access to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay makes the infotainment system on Ford cars much more modern, streamlined and comfortable to use.
Latest North Korean Launch Involves Liquid Fuel Single-Stage Missile
North Korea says Sunday's launch was of a new type of "medium long-range" ballistic rocket that can carry a heavy nuclear warhead. The U.S. mainland and American military bases in the Pacific are within North Korea's "sighting range for strike", Kim continued.
Though Ford has been issuing SYNC upgrades since 2009, this is the first time the company is offering an update via Wi-Fi. Like with Android Auto, CarPlay allows integration with the in-car infotainment system, enabling app projection on the SYNC 3 screen, and voice control via Apple's Siri system. If it does not have Wi-Fi hardware, you can go to Ford's website on your PC and download the update to a USB Flash drive, and then plug in that drive in your auto to install the software.
Or download the update from this website and install it with a USB drive.
Apple CarPlay is compatible with iPhone 5 or later models running at least iOS 7.1. As long as the system is connected to the Wi-Fi, the update process will keep running in the background.
