An impeachment is essentially a high profile trial. "President Trump is not above the law". They eventually impeached him for attempting to replace his secretary of war, Edwin Stanton, without congressional permission, a contravention of the Tenure of Office Act, which stated that the president couldn't relieve members of his Cabinet without consulting the Senate. In 1970, then-House Minority Leader Gerald Ford defined an impeachable offense as "whatever a majority of the House of Representatives considers it to be at a given moment in history".

To continue the process, the articles of impeachment would have to be brought to the House floor for a majority-rules vote.

"Given the gravity of the events that have occurred over the past several weeks, there is simply no reasonable question that the Oversight Committee and Judiciary Committee should already be conducting a robust investigation of these issues that includes public hearings, document requests, and interviews and depositions". A vote is taken in the House.

The survey from Public Policy Polling (PPP)-a company that does public polls as well as polling for Democratic candidates-found that 48 percent of voters support impeaching Trump while 41 percent do not.

There are years of this administration in front of us, but the impeachment process would seem like an eternity in the Trump era if the current pace of news keeps up.

Trump said the solution to peace is "something that I think is, frankly, maybe not as hard as people have thought over the years". Trump said he has always heard that a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians was the "toughest deal" to close.

Even a week ago, before Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, few party officials had even considered such a dramatic move, which has happened only twice in American history. It was conducted after the Comey firing but before news broke of his memo or that Trump may have disclosed classified information from an ally to Russian Federation.

Garbuzov called attention to the fact that the impeachment procedure may take more than a year.

Green laid out the case for impeachment earlier this week, pointing to Trump's firing of FBI director James Comey, his subsequent warning that "James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations", and his acknowledgement that he had the Russian Federation investigation on his mind when making the firing decision.
