Jaguar F-Type gets smaller four-cylinder Ingenium engine

Like the V6 and V8 versions, the F-Type 2.0 will be loud. The 0-100 kmph sprint is done in just above 5.4 seconds and the top speed is 250 kmph. The max torque figure comes in as early as 1,500 rpm, and with guidance from its eight-speed Quickshift transmission, the four-cylinder F sprints from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96.5 km/h) in 5.4 seconds.

That's right mate. The Jaguar F-Type Coupe you see here in official pictures is the new entry-level model powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol-turbo engine.

Jaguar used the NY auto show to add yet another variant of the F-Type to its lineup, bringing the total number of F-Type flavors to 24 (!) with the debut of the four-cylinder model. With 148bhp per litre, it actually has the highest specific power output of the F-type range, and with 295lb ft of torque spread from 1500 to 4500rpm it should offer plenty of in-gear shove. Finally, the Ingenium engine family's valvetrain includes a variable valve lift system on the intake side that, to be succinct, provides a tremendous amount of control. Cutting the cylinder count, that is. Coolant flowing through ducts in the manifold reduces warm-up times and therefore reduces fuel consumption and emissions. Fuel economy numbers are yet to be released, but they will certainly be the most miserly of all F-Types.

"The ReRun app combines several unique features from our developer toolkits to help F-Type drivers to create premium quality, easy-to-share videos of their driving experiences", said Adam Silver, senior director of accessories and developer solutions at GoPro.

If you are familiar with the term "Ingenium", you will also know that it mainly consists of Jaguar's less powerful but efficient offerings, usually available in its humbler 4-door saloon range.

The comparable performance is likely to be a result of the four-cylinder engine's weight savings. An active exhaust is standard on the four-cylinder model, and this can be further tweaked with a switchable active exhaust on the R-Dynamic trim cars. The weight distribution of the auto is split 50/50 between the front and the rear.

Smaller-capacity F-types will also be subject to less heavy taxation in certain overseas markets. Jaguar also says, with peak pulling power coming at just 1500rpm, the engine responds very keenly throughout the rev range.

Jaguar's F-Type sports vehicle is getting a refreshed look, new powertrains, and cool technology for the 2018 model year. All 2.0 litre F-Type models can be specified with optional 19- and 20-inch wheel designs. A sleek frameless rearview mirror adds another contemporary touch.

The new four-cylinder F-Type goes on sale this Spring with prices starting at £49,900.

Jaguar is launching a sub-£50,000 version of the F-Type coupe. The vehicle comes with a Touch Pro infotainment system, autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning; other options include lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition and even a driver condition monitor.
