Referring to the massive win for BJP in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls, the prime minister said the hope his government had generated among the masses in 2014 has turned into confidence. The meeting attended by Shiv Sena chief Udhdhav Thackeray didn't discuss the upcoming Presidential elections, however, as was widely speculated that the NDA partners would strategise and try to evolve consensus over the next presidential candidate as incumbent President Pranab Mukherjee's term expires on July 25, 2017. Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray, Former Punjab Chief Minister and Akali stalwart Prakash Singh Badal, Union Minister and LJP Chief Ram Vilas Paswan were among those who attended the meeting.
Mr Modi said he wants to see a "New India" and a developed India by 2022 moving in the right direction with people proud of the country.
The idea of people's welfare and overall development is the identity of the government, it said highlighting a number of government schemes.
The NDA meeting on Monday was an attempt to reaffirm the alliance's unity in the aftermath of the heat and dust of the assembly polls and local body elections in some states. Replying to a question as to whether presidential election also came up for discussion, Jaitley said, "It was not on the agenda".
India extends $4.5 billion line of credit to Bangladesh
This is the Bangladesh Prime Minister's first bilateral visit to India in seven years since her last visit in 2010. He said that 17 projects have been identified for utilisation of the new line of credit.
"Despite the bad shape of economy, the government did a good job and headed towards development".
"The NDA leaders chose to work together to succeed in 2019 Lok Sabha elections under Modi's leadership", said a Bharatiya Janata Party leader, who attended the meeting at the Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi's diplomatic enclave. Leaders of BJP allies, including the new friends it has won over in Goa and north-eastern states, were present at the meeting.
He asked party MPs to claim credit for the government's achievements, saying they will be its face when it fights the next elections. He also added that the mega coalition has emerged stronger under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Minister said the ruling alliance has expanded its support base in the last three years during which its popularity and acceptability have also gone up.
The BJP has 32 allies across the country. Representatives of the BJP allies, including People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti and Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu, will also be there, reported NDTV.
