In her acceptance speech 76-year old Baez called for global compassion. The legendary group Journey. Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum CEO Greg Harris recently shared his thoughts about the various inductees with ABC Radio.

Perry, estranged from the band for many years, did embrace guitarist and co-founder Neal Schon onstage. The band is unsure if Perry would sing, as they said it would be up to him.

The induction of ELO, Yes and, especially Journey, were greeted with huge ovations, showing that the decision Rock Hall voters have made to embrace '70s superstars, who have always been eligible but passed over, has been overwhelmingly popular.

He then introduced some former members of the band - drummer Ansley Dunbar and Gregg Rolie for "Lights".

"To Steve Perry, you're one of a kind". That was the last time I spoke with him.

"Here we are in this modern technology age, and we've got a lot of evolving to do". I want you to know that. While it was inspired by a personal tragedy, Perry says making it has been "cathartic".

Next up was the induction of Journey, which was preceded by a speech from Train frontman Pat Monahan. The group enjoyed its greatest success prior to Perry's departure, including when it released its anthemic single "Don't Stop Believin' in 1981; 28 years later the song became a top seller on iTunes". Joan Baez, Electric Light Orchestra and Yes were also part of the 2017 class inducted at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, which kicked off with a tribute to Chuck Berry.

HBO will air an edited version of the ceremony at 8 p.m. April 29.
