U.S. cites Russian inaction in Syria attack

Iraq's influential Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr called on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to "take a historic heroic decision" and step down, to spare his country further bloodshed.

Trump said he was sending the letter as part of his efforts "to keep the Congress fully informed, consistent with the War Powers Resolution".

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster, in separate interviews, said that the administration's decision last week to strike an Assad regime airfield wasn't a sign that the U.S.is now focused on toppling the Syrian leader.

British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson has cancelled his trip to Moscow following US missile strikes in Syria, which Moscow has denounced.

In the interview with CNN, Haley said peace in Syria was impossible with Assad in power.

Fallon wrote referring to Russia: "This latest war crime happened on their watch".

"I hope they'll reconsider this idea that we're going to get rid of ISIS and then we'll hopefully use Assad and others to come up with a solution".

Westbrook clinches triple-double average for season
Russell Westbrook's performance against the Phoenix Suns on Friday night can best be described as bittersweet. Phoenix Suns: PG - Brandon Knight, SG - Devin Booker , SF - TJ Warren, PF - Jared Dudley , C - Tyson Chandler.

The general consensus among both parties is that working with the worldwide community in a diplomatic fashion is probably the best strategy in dealing with Assad, but if Trump doesn't go before Congress to explain his future plans and chooses to launch another strike at Syria, could this unleash a serious war?

But what many found puzzling was that the attack on Idlib was different only in degree from what Assad's regime has been doing, with some consistency, for years.

The statement also criticized "the hasty interventions" that followed the chemical attack, in an apparent reference to the USA strikes. "Russian Federation is fully supporting Syria and trying to make excuses for the use of weapons of mass destruction", Mr Shelbrooke said. Echoing the government line, Sadr also said that the American strike would "drag the region to war" and could help "the expansion of Daesh [the Islamic State group]".

"It is a clumsy attempted demarche, which is ridiculous in terms of big diplomacy", Konstantin Kosachev, the chairman of the upper house of the Russian parliament's worldwide affairs committee, said.

McMaster also made clear that Trump wants a world-wide response to Assad's action that would include Russian Federation and Iran.

Ahead of his election victory, Trump had attacked Obama's approach in ways that appeared to suggest he would back off of calls to remove Assad.

Tillerson meets with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday, just days after the United States fired cruise missiles at a Syrian air base in retaliation for the chemical attack.

Host Chris Wallace followed up by pointing out that Assad is still committing mass murder, just with different weapons, and asking if the United States is now prepared to retaliate against him for attacks on civilians with conventional weapons as well.
