Ex punk-rocker O'Rourke launches longshot bid against Cruz

"Congressman Beto O'Rourke has a big announcement to make on Friday".

"So you don't know until you do it", O'Rourke said. A spokesman for the Texas Democratic Party also declined to comment on the announcement.

Beto O'Rourke, 44, will announce his candidacy for the 2018 Texas election for Senate, challenging incumbent Sen. Here, O'Rourke take part in the 2016 President's Leadership Council. Could he finally be making his Senate run official?

O'Rourke's chances aren't great against Cruz as no Democrat has been elected statewide since 1994. U-S House Democratic Representative Joaquin Castro of San Antonio has also been considering a run against Cruz and is expected to make his decision sometime in April.

O'Rourke, by contrast, has made plain since his insurgent initial race for the House in 2012 that he would impose term limits on himself.

Jones added that Castro "has always led the charge on tough fights, so one way or another, he will be on the front lines of the 2018 midterm elections doing everything he can to continue to hold Republicans accountable".

Regardless of who challenges Cruz, they will have to raise a lot of money in a heavily-Republican state, and will likely face an uphill challenge to unseat Cruz.

After a failed presidential bid previous year, Cruz appeared vulnerable in his re-election bid-though mostly in the Republican primary. He continued on about O'Rourke, "He's got this aura around him". O'Rourke has a knack for harnessing the Internet.
