Technical Tidbits 1/5: Blue Devils handle Jackets, Sellers to transfer

"I talked to Coach many, many times when I came back after break", Allen said.

After another tripping incident and meltdown on the bench against Elon left Allen suspended, it appears that he will be returning to the lineup at home against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Wednesday night. They wiped Georgia Tech off the Cameron Indoor Stadium floor, a 110-57 shellacking in which the offensive capacity of a team with Allen, Luke Kennard, Matt Jones, Jayson Tatum and Harry Giles was realized.

Monday's announcement marks the latest twist in an already drama-filled season for a team voted No. 1 in the preseason on the strength of a lineup led by preseason AP All-American guard Grayson Allen and four immediate-impact freshmen.

Yes, Krzyzewski also stripped Allen of his captaincy.

We shall see if the risky practice of leg-whipping and tripping opponents continues, although Allen, for his part, at least sounded contrite after scoring 15 points with seven assists (and one turnover) in his return. The indefinite suspension lasted just one game - the Blue Devils' loss to Virginia Tech last weekend. In hockey, it gets you two minutes, although the equivalent to Allen's trips might be slew footing, which is similarly unsafe and has earned equally short suspensions.

Krzyzewski spoke on the process that he took in coming to the game one-game suspension.

Even just minutes into the game, there was no doubt about who would come out on top.

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said he postponed his surgery a few days to get his team "moving in the right way".

Krzyzewski, who turns 70 next month, is set to have surgery Friday to remove a fragment of a herniated disc. Duke (13-2, 1-1 ACC) expects him back in roughly four weeks.

"I am hopefully smarter and not as bullheaded", Krzyzewski said of this operation. The school says Krzyzewski tried several treatment options during the past month before deciding on surgery.

"Maybe it's three (games)".

But perhaps the bigger reason that Coach K just got it over with, putting Grayson Allen back in the line-up has more to do with the coach and less to do with Grayson Allen. Hopefully he keeps getting seven assists and one turnover. "I think it's time to move on, and I think the new role he has will be a good one for him". Allen had three assists before he attempted a field goal or free throw, finally driving aggressively toward the basket to draw a foul with 14:45 remaining in the first half.

Krzyzewski called the Georgia Tech beatdown "the end of us patch-working our team". "I was trying to share the ball, and I think we did a good job of sharing it tonight".
