Patriots QB Jacoby Brissett has torn thumb ligament, report says

New England Patriots rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett could miss several weeks with a torn right thumb ligament suffered in Thursday night's 27-0 win over the Houston Texans.

Brissett impressed in his first National Football League start, which occurred because of the shoulder injury Jimmy Garoppolo suffered Sunday.

Marshall, who has tried unsuccessfully to slay the Patriots dragon in the division as a member of both the Jets and Dolphins, could be forgiven along with everyone else in the East for getting their hopes up this year with Tom Brady serving his four-game Deflategate suspension. The Texans lost on prime time none the less, 27-6 to the Patriots. Brian Hoyer would take over at QB if Cutler can't go. But New England also went heavy, with extra tackle Cameron Fleming reporting as eligible on 23 percent of their snaps, and fullback James Develin playing a season-high 38 percent. He basically dared Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers to throw his way before the season opener and welcomed Smith's antics. "A fan's perspective. I just wanted to see a good game".

The NFL is laughably short on quality quarterbacks, and most teams would be screwed if they were to lose a starter for any extended period of time.

Unifor still in talks with GM as contract expiration looms
A third GM plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, is excluded from talks because its 2,700 workers have a separate contract. The consolidated line was originally scheduled for closure in 2005, but that was extended until next year.

Belichick credited players with being able to take the concepts given to them with that play and executing despite their limited time with it. Belichick is always planning ahead.

"I got to make sure I carry the ball with my left hand on the left side", Ervin said. That same scenario played out in the third quarter when Nate Ebner forced a Tyler Ervin fumble on a kickoff return that was recovered by Jordan Richards and set up another touchdown that extended the lead to 20-0. Punter Ryan Allen had his best game as a pro with 7/7 punts downed inside the 20 yard line and 5 of them inside the 15. Each and every one of Allen's seven punts was either downed or fair caught. Houston's average drive start was the 16 yard line, compared to the 40 yard line for the Patriots. He will look to record his first win against the Cleveland Browns.

Brissett was shown on the sideline in obvious discomfort during the third quarter of the Texans tilt, but he played from wire-to-wire. Even just on the surface, that's an impressive job. Matt Patricia was even more impressive with his defensive game plan that was executed to perfection. "It felt great just to get out there". But given the combination of Brissett's athleticism, his ablity to execute play-fakes, and the look the Patriots thought they might get from the Texans, Belichick and his staff believed they could make it work. After leaving the Lions, Bill would spend one year with the Denver Broncos before moving on to the New York Giants where he coached from 1979-1990.
