Medical Society President Promises Students Of Medicine An Event Like No Other

By Jac Perry

GUAM - Guam Medical Society 2010 President-Elect Dr. Jerone Landstrom encourages all physicians and allied health professionals in the
region to take advantage of the opportunities at the 4th Micronesia Medical Symposium next month.

The Guam Medical Society and U.S. Naval Hospital Guam will co-sponsor the Symposium taking place October 9 through 11, 2009.

"Many doctors are coming from our neighboring Islands to participate in this event, even from Hawaii," Landstrom said.

The topic of the symposium this year is "Cancer in the Islands" and will feature renowned international cancer specialists.

Not only will participants gain valuable knowledge, they are able to earn credit required to practice medicine and work in allied health in the United States.

Landstrom explained that doctors and allied health professionals are able to earn "about half of the American Medial Association (AMA)
required credits for licensure."

"CME (continued medical education for physicians) and CEU (continuing education credits for allied health professionals) are required for
renewal of medical or nursing licenses in all jurisdictions of the United States and its territories," he said.

The symposium offers "a significant number of category 1 CME credits at a single event and no other symposium has done this on Guam,"
Landstrom added.

"The three-day symposium has been accredited by the AMA for 14 category 1 CME credits. This will provide about 1/2 of the 25
category 1 AMA CME credits required every 2 years for physician licensure on Guam," he explained.
