Now More Enrollees Can Get The Help They Need To Attain Degrees
GCC's Project AIM Grant Award Increases GUAM More Guam Community College students enrolled in Project AIM will have access to financial aid thanks to an increase in grant funding by the U.S. Department of Education. This year, U.S. DOE awarded GCC's Project AIM an additional one-time Grant Aid supplement of $20,650, bringing the total of grant aid for financial assistance to $39,808 for the 2009-2010 program year.GCC's Project AIM base award for FY09 is $292,905 (which includes the $19,158 in Grant Aid dedicated to student aid). It is the same amount as last year's base award. However with the one-time supplement, Guam Community College's TRiO Student Support Services-Project AIM was awarded a total of $313,555 for project year 2009-2010. Project AIM provides support services to students who are the first in their family to attend college, students of a certain income bracket or individuals with a disability. Project AIM assists participants in staying focused in college, and helps them to graduate and/or and transfer to a four year institution. The program offers free tutoring, mentorships, a computer/study lab, book loans, lap top loans, cultural activities, a transfer center and various workshops. GCC Calender Of Events Thursday, Sept. 17 - GCC Fall Festival The Council on Postsecondary Student Affairs (COPSA) at Guam Community College will be hosting the annual Fall Festival this Thursday, September 17th, from 4 - 8 p.m. in the campus courtyard. All the different student organizations on campus will have booths set up to provide information about their various missions and to sell food, drinks and other items in order to raise money for their organizations. It's an opportunity for GCC students to meet members of the various campus organizations. Joining a student organization allows students to learn how to conduct projects, lead meetings, work as a team, and gain leadership and other skills. Five (5) Council On Postsecondary Student Affairs (COPSA) dollars will be given to every officially registered student who signs in. These COPSA dollars can be used to purchase any of the items being sold at the festival. Also, the National Guard's Rock Wall will be available for people to climb at the event. Saturday, Sept. 19 - GCC Helps Sponsor International Coastal Cleanup GCC students, faculty, staff and administrators will once again take part in the island's largest annual cleanup event. This year, GCC has been assigned to clean up Pago Bay. Registration is at 6:30 a.m. on site, and cleanup starts at 7:00 a.m. Last year, GCC had over 200 participants. This year, as with our Fall registration numbers, we hope to break that record! GCC is one of the sponsors of the 15th Annual Guam International Coastal Cleanup! Saturday, Sept. 26 - GCC Foundation PAR Excellence Golf Tournament Two-man Best Ball. Show time: 11 a.m. Shotgun start: Noon.
